Shari R. Veil, Ph.D., MBA is the director of Risk Sciences and assistant professor of communication at the University of Kentucky College of Communications and Information Studies. She coordinates research and funding opportunities and establishes education and training programs specific to risk and crisis communication. Previously, she was the director of the Center for Risk and Crisis Management and assistant professor of strategic communication at the University of Oklahoma. Her research interests include organizational learning in high-risk environments, community preparedness, and communication strategies for crisis management. She is currently a co-principal investigator on two projects funded by the Department of Homeland Security’s National Center for Food Protection and Defense to analyze traditional media and social media coverage of food safety crises.
